the past few days working in the province, ive been eating ’toro-toro” for lunch. toro-toro is a local term for different dishes displayed in different pots and all you need to do is to point which one you want and the waitress will put them into separate smaller plates for you. the dishes will be eaten with white rice.

today, i came to this shop and was greeted by her. she was friendly and very enthusiastic in introducing her dishes. but i dont understand a word, other than manok and bangus (chicken and fish) but i just smiled and nod. my colleague then told her im not local and she laughed out loud. she then told us she cooked all the dishes herself.

i took out my camera and asked if i can take a shot of her with her almost complete kitchen. of course you cannot compare with eric ripert’s le bernadin’s kitchen but in the province, what you see hanging is good enough to cook. i never do portraits, but i told her ill try to make her beautiful and famous in the internet as well as back in malaysia.

she just stand there and pose for me.
